Can we hook you into our stories....

We want to hook in our readers to our stories.  This is how we started our writing. We entered a competition at the library.

“Ping bang.” I jumped in.  “Aah that’s as comfortable as a cushion.”  “Erer, it is hard to get out of here.”  I could hear the jangling noise of kids jumping up and down.  Joining them was a good idea.  That night I felt myself bouncing up and down.
By Ryan

What was that humungous thing?  It looks like a monster.  Where am I? It feels like I am in a different place.  I tiptoed downstairs.  I opened the door.  I had a little peek.  I tiptoed outside.
By Jack

What was that thing?  Was it a monster?  It was coming from the door. BANG. That noise again.  “Come outside” said a voice.  I crept to the door and opened it.  WOOSH! Leaves blew in my face.  Come on door close.
By Josh M

What was that thing?  It was furry. It had a long nose.  I thought it would eat me up.  “Quack aaaaahhhhh!” I sprinted as fast as I could go.  I got a duck.  I wondered if it would eat bread.  It ate it up. It twaddled towards me.
By Jack

“What, no why would I do that?”  “I do not need to go to bed.”  “Cos you don’t need to go to bed, I was just tricking.”  Yeah I only just got up and I’ve got a massive day ahead of me!
Josh W

Woof, Woof.  What’s that sound?  I heard it again.  Where is it coming from?  I searched and searched but I couldn’t find it.  So I went home.  But I kept hearing it.  “Where is it coming from?”  I shouted.
By Myia

“Who was at the door?”  Said Dwayne.  It was cold. Dwayne  grabbed a flashlight and went into the forest.  He heard screaming.  Dwayne found eight pages.  He saw a shed.  There were lots of tools.
By Montana

Boom, boom, boom. “What’s that sound?”  “Come to me,” whispered a voice. “WWWWhat are you, who are you?”  He walked downstairs shivering like he was in the North Pole.  He saw green faces staring at him.
By Jayme

“Ahhh.”  “What was that?”  Frightenly he walked downstairs tip toe, tip toe.  The voice said “Boom, Boom Bor.” Jason thought for a second “What?” he kept walking.
By Jayme

In the dark night walking through the leaves I heard the roof go ding, ding, and ding.  I thought it was the bells but then I heard bang, bang bang.  It came from the door. Whish, whish, whish the leaves went.  Bang, bang, bang the windows slammed shut.
By Bailey

Am I going to be brave or not?  I thought to myself we are nearly there.  I was still thinking about something.  Will I be brave or not?
By Julia

Snap, snap, the scissors going snap in the bushes. What is that on the bush?  We got out the magic magnifying glass.  Boom. I got it. Is it a bug?  Yes, but what kind of bug.  It is a beautiful black mother beetle.
By Connor

The shiny sun shone on the glittering snow.  It was freezing cold on the snowy top.  From the snowy top it was high.  But from the grassy bottom it was just cold. When I walked far away from it, it was just warm.
By Julia

Flapping wings soared in the sky.  Thumping feet shuffled in the air.  Squeaking rats raced along the floor.  Sparkling stone glittered in the dark.  The cave was swampy and slippery. Nasty spiders tickled my feet. Pesky bugs nipped my foot and evil bugs pinched.
By Ollie

Dirt, rock and stands of trembling people.  Cars line up on the shattered starting line with nervous messy drivers. 3,2,1, go.
By Josh W

Waves of blue shattered everywhere.  Mountains of sand were piled high.  Munted rocks stood tall. Surfers on the humongous waves.  Crabs waited to bite. Fish danced and dived in the waves. Piers were standing tall.  Sun bathing people were on the sand.
By Lewis

Tiny bits of rock surrounded the place.  Splashing noises echoed in the distance. The foot prints were ginormous.
Ryan

Sand as far as I could see.  Sparkling waves rocking back and forth like a baby’s crib.  Crabs pinching me everywhere I go.  How could this get any better?  I see tall straight trees waving in the wind.  All of a sudden smoke fills the air.  I cough and run.
By Jayme

It’s a lion, no it is a human.  Its 80 foot tall.  Sand is everywhere I look. Wow! I see camels in the distance. I think to myself who built this.  Humans or was it meerkats.  I don’t know.  The great sphinx is sitting proud.
By Jayme

Splish! Splash! Splosh! ZOOM! Ahr! Curse you fish.  Where’s the door? There it is now the button. The code is 781943. Correct.  Thanks, door down. VVV, ding Room 1.
By Josh M

Bong, bong there goes my ball.  Splash it’s lost.  There are leaves and twigs falling.  What is that, it’s big?  AHHH it’s a tiger roar. I am scared, it’s a hunter.  I have got to run.
By Izak

Swirling winds are swirling across the sky. My legs are shaking like an earthquake. Squeaking noises sounded like my Mum screaming at me.  The swirling wind is bigger than a giraffe.
By Julia

Falling rocks, broken caves, dead animals in my sight.  Sleeping bats on the roof.  Thumping rocks fall to the ground.  Roaring waves capture me.  I sink and swim to the surface. Fighting animals run from bats. Scared rats run over my feet.  Nasty spiders bite my feet.
By Ollie

The beautiful weather was spinning in the air like a tornado.  Waterfalls in the sky, it drags in golden sand near trees shaped like mushrooms. At the beach scaly fish in the water.
By Bailey

Ouch that hurt me, who did that.  It was just the nasty rose bush.  I think we should chop it down. I agree.  Yes, now it is going down, there is dad.  When he saw it he had a shock.  “What did you do that for, that bush was very popular?”
By Connor

We’re getting lower and lower. Crashing, I thought. But no we didn’t.  We hit the ground, the air breaks shoot up.  The tar went crazy.

Today we wrote about the icy day at school.

Today when we came to school there was a lot of ice.  This is what we thought about it.

The ice feels like a smashed ice cube.  It looks like green glass covered with white frozen crumbly ice on top of it. The ice sounds like shiny glass falling on concrete.

By Julia

Slippery slidy ice burnt my hands.  Transparent ice melting into dips of tears. SMASH! It sounds like a beer bottle dropped on the ground.  It tastes like Antarctica.  It smells like fresh frozen water sliding through a puddle.

By Josh M

The ice feels cold and frigid.  It looks like hail. Veins creeping inside the ice. It sounds like it is raining when it cracks.  Wet, green grass melting into ice. It felt like wet paper. Crash, clutter.

By Connor

Crack, crack on icy concrete.  It feels like little dots all connected. It smells like grass. It tastes like drops on my tongue.  It sounds like water swishing round in a puddle.

By Myia

The ice was very cold and looked like a boat shape.  It sounds like crash.  It smells like nothing.  It tastes like freezing cars but I still ate it.

By Montana

The white frosty ice and snow creeping down below. Bang, crash bang. Hail smashes the ground like rockets.

By Bailey

Transparance surrounds me.  I am holding a pirate ship. Smelling like grass. “Oh what luck!”  Numbing hands shoot up arms like rockets firing into space.

By Ryan

Frosty, frozen ice tightens my icy freezing hands.  That ice is pretty. SMASH!  Looks like broken glass.  My hands feel like they are frozen.  It smells like fresh broken water.  It tastes like rippled frozen bits of fur on the frozen rippled ground.

By Jack

Transparance surrounds me. White slides through the grass.  It smells like rain moving. It tastes like fried chicken.

By Deakon

Its magical ice.  It feels like snow and glass together. It looks like water.  It sounds like water.  It smells like water.  It tastes like ice.

By Nikkita

Ice numbing my hands.  Ice as white as paper.  As see through as water.  Humongous rippled ice.  Freezes the school nearly in half.

By Josh W

Bang! Bang! Cold frigid. Ice everywhere.  Smooth pirate ship, shaped bumpy, hail.  Smells like fresh water. Water paper.  Brittle, crash, crash.

By Lewis

Splash, splash, what’s that on my foot?  Its ice!!!!  Frozen ice, numbing my hands and feet.  It smells like crunchy dog food.  Slippery ice slipped across the ground.  Slippery shoes skidded along the teeny ice.  Muddy grass covering the shiny brittle ice.  Crash in my hands.  It tastes like freezing cold water.  It ripples through the icy wood.  People throw clean ice on the bumpy wall.  Chilly wind across the land.  The ice shivered and cracked amongst the classrooms.

By Ollie

Bree! My hands are frozen numb. Wow, it’s crystal clear. Crash, clang. “Oh no.”  It’s broken. It feels like glass. Phew.  I don’t like the wet soaked dog smell.  It comes from hills of mountainous snow.

By Jayme

The ice tasted like tartare sauce.  It felt rough and frigid.  It smelt like eggs.  It sounds like a window smashing.  It looked like a volcano.  It was melting like fire burning it after my hand was numb.

We have written about our visit to the Air Force Museum

Our Memories of the Air Force Museum

We went on the 12 seater vans to the massive Air Force Museum.  Chris took us in to the classroom.  We dressed up into air force pilots.  I was ghost. My helmet had glasses and shades.  We made a foam model air force plane that flew properly.  We also had a scavenger hunt to find a plane with a tiki on it, a dog, a plane with folding wings, a plane with skis on it, a blue tractor, a plane with a red carpet, a teddy bear and a bent propeller.  Then we had a look around and went into captured. It was cool because there was a secret exit.  We went back to school for the rest of the day.
By Josh M

The Freeville vans were outside waiting for us.  Half an hour later we were there at the Air Force Museum.  I thought there must be a lot of planes to fit into this building.  When I saw all the planes, “Holy moly”, I said to myself.  The vans tumbled and rumbled on the way back.  The back seat was making a lot of noise because the caging was rattling at the back.
By Connor

We went to the Air Force Museum.  We went on the school bus.  When we got there we went into groups.  We did this amazing scavenger hunt.
By Montana

Clutter boom the school van started its engine and all the kids and Toni and Vanessa and Trish jumped into the tidy van and sped down the road to the Air Force Museum.  We went to the entry and Chris came out and said “Hello.”  I felt excited.  We went to Chris’s classroom and we learnt about planes and what people did in planes. We made paper planes and watched a movie and dressed up in our pilot clothes.  One of the planes had skis instead of wheels so it could go to Antarctica.  One of the planes had red carpet on the bit you walk on to get to the plane.  The red carpet was for the Queen to walk up.  I thought it was an outstanding day because we did so much work.  We jumped back in the van and found our seats and put on our seat belts.  The van rumbled back to school.
By Lewis

I heard happy whispering.
I heard people running.
I saw people looking at stuff like the planes.
I felt like something was going to break.
I felt excited because it was so interesting.
I wondered what I would see on the way back to school.  The van was very bumpy.
I wondered whether we would make it back to school.
Deakon

Vrrroooom!!!!  “Hi guys I’m Chris.”  “Hi  Chris.”  We walked into the enormous museum.  We put all of our cosy jackets in a safe cage.  We walked into a dark dim room and we saw epic helicopters and plane, even a turret!!!  “Owww” I said.  I got a headache.  We walked into a freezing room.  “That’s better” I stated.  We marched upstairs and sprinted to the shiny floor where we met Chris.  “It’s time for a treasure hunt now” he exclaimed.  We found a plane with a red carpet.  “This is the Queens plane,” a tidy pleasant man remarked.  We walked outside where the wind whistled and everybody chatted all the way back to the shady school.
By Ollie

We went in the van.  We’re at the Air Force Museum.  It is a colossal size.  We go in and look up at the planes. Wow!  We go further into the museum.  We see more planes.  One of the planes had a red carpet.  Do you know why the plane had a red carpet?  It is because it was for royal people to walk down.  Another plane had wings that folded in.  One of the planes had skis instead of wheels.  Do you know why it had skis instead of wheels?  It is because it had landed in Antarctica.
By Josh W

We went to the Air Force Museum.  We went on the bus.  As I was walking I saw Chris.  We went to his classroom.  We dressed up. We had a scavenger hunt.
By Bailey

We went to the Air Force Museum.  We put our bags and our jackets in a steel cage.  We sat on the hard floor.  There was a giant yellow plane and fancy plane.  We got to wear costumes.  They were from the Air Force. We had morning tea there.  We had a scavenger hunt.  I found the big yellow plane and the teddy bear in the tiny plane.  There was an enormous plane with red carpet.  There was a plane with a green tiki on the side.  There were some with missiles on them.  Upstairs there were a lot of medals.  They were silver, purple, bronze and gold. They were shiny. There was a place with a short video of this plane flying over the ocean.  We went downstairs and we got this toy plane.  We went in the vans driving back to school and had lunch.
By Izak

Clip, bang.  Running over bumps. Slamming on the brakes faster than ever. “EEK.”  “Get out of the van, have a run around.”  Here comes the other van, let’s walk to the Air Force Museum.  Aeroplanes hung up in the warm impressive room.  We met Chris there.  He talked about people who died in war.  Chris told us to do a scavenger hunt all around the whole museum.  Two and a half hours. Whew.  Foam aeroplanes cool.  Back to school. “Clip bang!”   The End
By Ryan

Our class is going to the Air Force Museum.  I wondered if there were new and exciting things.  Chris was friendly. He let us on everything.  We did a scavenger hunt.  We got some jet planes.  We got to wear air force helmets.  I wore a white helmet.
By Jack

We saw the van bouncing along.  We found our seats.  The van screeched.  We had come to a stop.  We saw the solider man, his name was Chris.  We walked in.  We saw fantastic planes everywhere.  Chris said, “Com on kids, let’s go to my classroom.” As we walked up all the stairs we saw lots of cool gear.  Chris said “We will dress up in the uniforms.”  After we had dressed up we had a scavenger hunt.  We saw breath taking planes and outstanding helicopters.  Soon after that we had morning tea.  After we were filled up Chris taught us how to salute.  Later we said our goodbyes saluting each other.  I thought it was an amazing experience because I saw new things like helicopters that flew high, once.
By Jayme

In the Air Force Museum we looked at jet planes and helicopters.  We looked at missiles.  We had morning tea.  We went to Chris to build the planes.   We went on a scavenger hunt.  We saw some battleships and a secret door.  A guy was making a New Zealand flag. We went back to school in the van and we had lunch.
