Josh's leggo

Josh's family have been so "impressed with Josh’s determination - he has been totally focused, saving for a whole year, all his birthday & Xmas money, pocket money, he has been very proactive & motivated doing extra jobs at home to earn more money, and has even resisted temptation to buy things during the year - he managed to save a grand total of $500, which we think is totally amazing.

Josh’s Granddad happened to be in America on the day that this latest version of the Lego Robot (EV3) was released, so Josh was probably the first person in NZ to have one.

He has spent every spare minute of each day building the Robot, and these are the results."

Base 34 is really impressed too. Well done Josh showing us all that if you want something enough you can do it.

Our Drain Stories

The drains…..

One day some people came to check the drains at break. It was crowded with kids like a soccer field and as loud as someone screaming.  I said “Can we go and play,” to Flynn. But Flynn said “No, after it’s done.”  So we stayed there.  Then it finally finished and the bell rang so we had to go to class.
Josh

Once I was biking through the forest.  Suddenly I heard a noise in the drains.  I stopped.  I thought of going down there.  I didn’t want too.  It was gooey and sloppy.  But I went down there anyway.  I found what was making the noise.  It was like chicken bones and as scary as a shark.  I said “Argheee it’s a dead body.”  It was gross and disgusting and annoying.  I wanted it out.  A little voice said that he cannot come up. The drain was as dark as night time.  The voice said “He’s been down here for many years.”  I got out because the voice kept whispering in my ear.  A few days later I went fishing.  It was as fun as riding a dolphin.  I said “Wow Dad you caught a dog fish.”  It was as loose as a broken robot.  The fish was slimy.
Noah

Once upon a time there was a rat.  He lived in the drains.  It was like rotten mould and old mud.  He said “It smells like something you would not eat.”  So one day he said “I’m going to get out of this.”  So he packed his bag.  On he went until he came to a very yucky part.  He said “It has got a lot of terrible stuff like old fish.”  It was hideous. So he walked through the sloppy mess.  When he came out of it he met his brother.  His brother said “How have you been?” The rat said “Terrible, disgusting and torture.”  “I know,” said his brother.  “I agree Rat.”  “Lets get out of here,” said his brother.  “Yeah” said Rat.
William

The drain was as black as ink.  I thought  ”Yuck it smells like rotten flesh.” And  it had so many leaves.  It was dirty and sloppy. The pipe was long and slimy and crowded.
Ollie

On a wet Saturday morning I was walking to the beach with my dog.  A drain appeared in front of me but I never knew it was so close to us.  A huge puddle was in front and that’s why I couldn’t see the drain.  Then my dog saw another dog, he ran straight to him. I tripped up and went head first into the noxious, sloppy, decaying, gross and hideous drain.  It smelled like rotten flesh with lots of sandflies.  I was stuck in there for four hours until Mum and Dad searching for me.  They tried to pull me out but failed.  They kept trying.  It took five goes before they actually got me out of the drain.
Brodie

Three weeks back drain people came to our school to fix them.  In the drains it looked like rotten flesh and disgusting.  Ashleigh said “Yuck, that looks like rotten slimy chicken.”  It just looked really gross.  The noise was annoying.  It smelt like slimy rotten, gooey chocolate.  Some rats and mice live in drains and if they do they will be all dirty all the time and they will get stinky.  I have held a mouse and rat before because my Mum wanted a photo. When I was holding the rat it bit my finger because I was holding the rat by its tail.  I said “Ow” because it really hurt.  The rat was biggish and the mouse was smallish.  Ashleigh said “There might be some mice and rats in the drains Izobella.”  The drains are as smelly as the smelliest rat in the world.
Ashleigh

Once there was a baby bandicoot crawling inside a drain.  He was scared so he said “Eek, eek, eek!” He crawled back to his bush.  He thought the drain was gross, hideous, disgusting, sloppy and gooey.  The next day he went to the icky drain.  It was as sloppy as a snail and as loud as construction work.  So he went down.  Later on that day in the drain he found some corn he wanted to eat.  But it was made out of a mans invention so the bandicoot said “Yuck, yuck,” and he spitted the piece of metal out.  The metal was orange and green.  He dug so deep that he touched the core of the earth. He saw another pipe so he crawled at 7k an hour to get there.

Art and Joan Miro

MI Time

We went scootering.  We had lots and lots of fun.

Dear Sun

Dear Sun
Why are you so hot?  When I look at you my eyes get scorched.  I love the sun because I get to go out to the fantastic and amazing beach.  I miss you when the rain comes.  You look exciting at sun set and sunrise.
William

Dear Sun
You are so so hot, you’re hotter then larva.  I love the pink sky you make in the morning.  It is very nice you are steaming bright.  I love it because I get to go swimming.  Thanks sun.  I also love it when you rain and make a rainbow.  I love you sun.
Jayme

Dear Sun
Why are you sizzling hot?  You come upon me shooting fiery ashes from the distance.  Shining upon the world.  Its lighter when you come.
Taylor

Dear Sun
You are blazing hot with no sun the world would be ice.  You are a ball of gas.  There would be no plants if you weren’t.  It would be freezing and dark and there would be thousands of clouds.  Sun you are so bright and if you weren’t here there would be no trees.  You are hotter than lava.
Ollie

Dear Sun
You are so so hot.  Sometimes when the rainbow is out I think that you and the clouds are having a fight.  I love you sun.
Emma

Dear Sun
You are brighter than the earth.  You’re boiling hot like lava.  I like it when you brighten up the world.  You fire upon other people as well as me. If you wouldn’t be there it would be freezing cold.  But I am happy you’re there.  You are the only one sun. You are here today.
Aaron

Dear Sun
You are sizzling with hotness and scorching with flames.  If you weren’t there I would be freezing cold. I wouldn’t be able to go outside.  Sun you are my hero with “blazing” fire and flames.  When I was born I knew you would be fantastic. From the distance toasting red and flaming with orange.
Brodie

Dear Sun
You burn my eyes when I look at you.  My eyes turn to fried eggs.  And in Fiji I got sun burnt because of you.  At Lake Hood I got sun burnt again but that was because I forgot to put sun block on.
Mason

Dear Sun
How do you shine bright, can you shine better and hotter and brighter?  Can you stay longer?  I want you to stay forever. I love to play outside all day long.  I come in when there are dark freezing clouds.  We love the sun.  How do you shine, we love you so much please come every day?
Kate

To Sun
Thank you for making us warm at night.  We think you are fantastic. We wouldn’t be warm with out you.  Sometimes we feel sizzling.  You are hotter than hot chilli.
Nathan

Dear Sun
I like you because when you shine I go to the beach and have a swim and go boggy boarding.  I get a Mr Whippy ice cream.  Thank you sun.
Josh

The rain feels like a bucket of water fell on me.  The rain smells like me. The rain looks like wet bullets shooting out of the sky.  Today and yesterday it is raining. Today it is alright later, no rain, no matter.  My blue water ring controls the sea and rain.  The grass is wet.

Then it rained.

Then it rained…..

The rain looks like the blue sky when it is drinking except it spills it over the clouds.  For us it’s like a huge shower.  It smells like milk. It feels like fresh air. The puddles are like a little pool. My hair gets soggy. Without the rain our plants wouldn’t grow.  With rain the fruit grows on trees.  The rain comes down as quick as lightening.  So it makes plants and fruit grow as fast as a racing car.
Noah

Today it was raining. It was damp and soggy and sticky.  It was kind of like cats and dogs pouring out of the blue sky.  The puddles made me think of tornadoes.
Brodie

The rain reminds me of the ocean.  It feels wet and the sticky puddles are huge. My hair is straight and the rain feels itchy and damp.
Ollie

Yesterday it was damp, wet and foggy.  Another day inside I thought.  And the rain reminds me of Aaron’s dog. My hair goes soggy. Raindrops fall everywhere, whishing and whooshing, splashing and waves.
Taylor

Yesterday when I woke up it was damp.  I could hear the rattling on the roof.  It smells like oil. When it rains it rattles on the roof.  It means no fun time like cricket and Jellie Park or other outside places and people get sick of it and mad.
Luke

Today it is raining.  Some people think rain can make stuff but I don’t think it’s true.  Me and Dad like rain.  Dad likes it because it helps our crops and I like it because we get to play with the blocks.  At home I run to my dojo with my dad and he teaches me judo.   I’m a red belt and only 2 levels to go. We have a leaking roof and it messes up the dojo sometimes.  It is very annoying when it rains.
Mason

The rain looked invisible because it was going fast.  The puddles were big like compact pools.  The rain smelt like salt lying on the clouds.
Josh

The rain feels cold and hard.  The rain looked like the clouds are crying on me.  It makes my hair very smooth.
William
